On December 26th, Wellington Dias, future Minister of Social Development, visited the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (CCBB) and declared that the government will carry out a fine-tooth comb process on Bolsa Família registrations.

“We have a large registry with approximately 90 million people. There are some strange things, the number of single-person families, those with just one person, has grown a lot.“, he emphasized.

According to Dias, the government will use data recorded in 2022 by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) census, which should end its research at the beginning of the term of office of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), elected in October. The government must identify current beneficiaries along with records collected by census takers.

The future minister also criticized the fact that some allegations of fraud related to Auxílio Brasil were highlighted only at the end of Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) term.

“It is strange that, with formal complaints still in the first half of the year, measures like this are only adopted at the end of the term.", it says. “When we take office, we will have all teams from different areas, integrated with states and municipalities, so that we can work on one side in the active search, so as not to leave anyone behind, as promised by the president. But, on the other hand, to be able to guarantee the conditions so that public money is not used illegally.“

After these statements, the program, which will once again be called Bolsa Família, will have to go through a great “fine-toothed comb” to find out who are the families that are in a situation of social vulnerability and really need this benefit.

Due to the increase in single-person families, where only one person receives the benefit, the benefit of R$ 600 is paid both to one person and, for example, to couple families with children.

“The president wants everything to be done in a very humane way, to avoid injustices, to really deal with many defense opportunities”, he explains. “However, whatever is irregular, we will deal with it”, emphasizes Dias.

The Federal Government has established deadlines for these beneficiary families to begin receiving monthly messages on the CadÚnico application about discrepancies in the information found in the DataPrev database.
