On February 24, Wellington Dias, Minister of Social Development, confirmed that 1.55 million people who receive Bolsa Família will be excluded from the month of March.
During an interview with GloboNews, the minister stated that people were identified who were receiving the benefit irregularly. “We are going to take more than 1.5 million out of the approximately 5 million that we are focused on [investigating]. These 1.5 million, we can guarantee that they do not meet the requirements. From the month of March. Receive irregularly“, said Dias.
Dias also highlighted that in the following months, this number could increase. “We expect that, at the end of the screening, around 2.5 million benefits will be canceled. Today, we have 21.9 million families receiving the benefit. The objective is not to exclude, but rather to remove those who do not need it and include those who need the benefit.“, he added.
Leaving the program voluntarily
In addition to the fine-tooth process being carried out by the Government, the minister said that around 2,265 families voluntarily decided to leave the program, through an option created in the Cadastro Único application, made available by the Federal Government.
“We introduced the possibility for people who did not qualify to volunteer and leave the program. This happened to these families“, he stated.
The option to “unregister” from Bolsa Família is available in the Cadastro Único app and aims to help people who do not need the amounts to make room for families who really need it to be included in the program.
According to Dias, another 700,000 families that fit the program's rules but did not receive it will be included in the program from March onwards.
Furthermore, the minister also highlighted that an extra amount will be created for families that have more people in their homes, as Bolsa Família was passing on the same amount to families with just one person (single-person) and families with six or seven members.
“It makes no sense. Therefore, we will also have an extra amount per capita to serve larger families. The person responsible for the final decision is President Lula“, he explained.
