Since the reformulation of Bolsa Família in March, the program has registered the inclusion of more than 1 million new families, who now meet the requirements to receive the benefits. Between March and April, benefits were granted to 802,000 families.

This May, the MDS (Ministry of Development) included another 200 thousand families, who will receive the highest average installment paid to date, reaching the value of R$ 672.45 per family.

Wellington Dias, Minister of Social Development, highlights the importance of adding these families to Bolsa Família, highlighting that many of them were experiencing difficulties, going hungry and without access to the social programs offered by the Government. The integrated work between the Federal Government, municipalities and states, through active search, was determined by Lula in order to guarantee the necessary service.

Bolsa Família value increased

The record amount invested in the month of May, R$ 14.1 billion, allowed almost 21.25 million families to be covered by Bolsa Família. This amount includes the additional portion of R$ 150 which is allocated to more than 9 million children aged 0 to 6 years old, totaling almost R$ 1.36 billion. Compared to April, there was an increase of R$ 22 million, enabling the inclusion of more than 147.7 thousand children in this age group.

Furthermore, the value of the average benefit received by each family from Bolsa Família is the highest in the history of the entire program, totaling R$ 672.45. In the month of June the value of R$ 50 will be increased, which will be aimed at pregnant women and children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 years old.

Launch of PROCAD-SUAS

In March 2023, the Ministry of Social Development launched PROCAD-SUAS (Emergency Assistance Program for the Single Registry in the Unified Social Assistance System), which allowed R$ 199.5 million to be transferred to municipalities and states

The resources are used to update the Single Registry (CadÚnico) and actively search for families in need, including the recomposition of service teams, the acquisition of equipment and the supply of other needs of municipalities and states.

As a result, 1 million families will now be served by the Bolsa Família program from May onwards, being able to meet their basic needs and purchase food. The minister also highlights that this is a victory for families who are in a vulnerable situation.

Distribution of benefits

In this month of May, of the 21.25 million families served, the Northeast region stands out, covering 46% of the total, being the region with the largest number of beneficiaries in Brazil. Around 9.76 million families receive a total transfer of 6.37 billion, with an average ticket worth R$ 664.38.

In second comes the Southeast region, covering more than 6.33 million families, with an allocated amount of R$ 4.25 billion, totaling an average value of R$ 672.32 for each family.

In the northern region of the country, approximately 2.6 million families benefit from a Federal investment of more than R$ 1.7 billion, with an average value of R$ 688.15 per family. In the South region, there are 1.43 million households that receive an income transfer of almost R$ 979.6 billion, representing an average value of R$ 685.13 for each family.

And finally, comes the Central-West region, with more than 1.13 million families covered by Bolsa Família, with an amount of R$ 779.9 million transferred by the Federal Government. This is also the region with the highest average benefit in Brazil, reaching a total value of R$ 691.20 per family.
