Caixa Econômica will finalize the May Bolsa Família payments for all groups of beneficiaries next week. The calendar for the month of May continues with payments from the 18th until the 31st, when the benefit is paid to the last group of beneficiaries.

As half of the payments have already been made, beneficiaries are already keeping an eye on the next installments of Bolsa Família (which fall in June). Next month, the program promises news for families related to the value of installments with the launch of a new additional benefit.

The 21.25 million families registered with Bolsa Família can expect an increase in the value of the benefit from June. The MDS (Ministry of Development) is finalizing the implementation of the New Bolsa Família this May.

The announcement of the reformulation took place in March, but so far there are details that are still on paper. Therefore, the new features are expected to begin with payments in June and could increase the amount received monthly for most of the program's beneficiaries.

What will change in Bolsa Família?

In practice, the Government intends to reformulate the way the benefit is calculated according to the number of people. Today, all beneficiaries receive the minimum Bolsa Família amount of R$ 600 per month, regardless of whether the family is made up of 5 people or is single-person (made up of just one person).

From the Government's perspective, the new payment format will bring “equity and social justice” to the program with the creation of a benefit worth R$ 142 per person. Thus, the more people who are part of the family group, the higher the value of the installment.

From June onwards, we will have more benefits coming into the lives of these families, such as R$ 50 for children aged seven and teenagers up to 18 years old and for pregnant women and the benefit paid to each person, in the amount of R$ 142. The Bolsa Family is returning with much more social justice for Brazilians“, explained Eliane Aquino, national secretary of Income and Citizenship.

What benefits will be paid?

  • Citizen Income Benefit – value of R$ 142 for each person in the family, regardless of the number of members. A family with 10 people, for example, could receive R$ 1,420 per month.
  • Complementary Benefit – paid when the Citizen Income Benefit is not enough to reach the minimum of R$ 600. The amount is calculated individually for each family.
  • Family Variable Benefit – the additional R$ 50 is intended for pregnant women and children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 years.
  • Extraordinary Transition Benefit – benefit paid when the value of the new benefits added is lower than what the family received under the Auxílio Brasil program.
