Instead of November 21st, the 2022 World Cup will open on the 20th (a Sunday) with the host team
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be brought forward by one day – instead of November 21st, the World Cup will start on November 20th (a Sunday). Due to the change, the event will last a total of 29 days.
2022 World Cup will be in Qatar
According to specialized media, the decision came in response to a request from the host country, Qatar, to open the 2022 World Cup with its national team against Ecuador. The change would give the event more visibility.
According to the press, which also specializes in sports coverage, FIFA (the organization that organizes the World Cup) had internally accepted the host country's request and should make an official announcement about the change in the coming days.
In the table already published, the home team will debut on the 21st in the third game, with the opening of the cup taking place in the match between Senegal and the Netherlands at 7am (Brasília time) at the Al Thumama Stadium. These two teams are in Group A, along with Qatar and Ecuador.
The change does not change Brazil's debut, which will face Serbia on November 24th. The World Cup final is scheduled for December 18th at the Lusail Stadium.
