The FGTS Extraordinary Withdrawal was released in 2022, meaning that many employees could make use of the stopped resources.

In total, more than R$ 23 billion was made available for FGTS resources. The values were useful during the new coronavirus pandemic, which brought many financial difficulties.

However, Brazilian workers hope for a new extraordinary withdrawal in 2023.

Will FGTS have an extraordinary withdrawal in 2023?

The deadline to make the extraordinary withdrawal in 2022 ended on December 15th. However, the question is whether for 2023, the amounts will be available again for those who have money available in the Fund's accounts.

As the emergency withdrawal was created by the current government, it is not yet known what will happen to the measure with the new elected government. Furthermore, the FGTS Board of Trustees (CCFGTS) reported that there are several releases of withdrawals that could cause the fund's resources to be compromised.

Therefore, it is practically unlikely that the extraordinary withdrawal will occur again in 2023, as it would put both the worker's “forced” savings and the resources of the benefit fund at risk.

It is important to remember that redemption of values can be done in other ways, see below:

Withdrawal modalities in 2023

Although workers are still unsure whether there will be a new extraordinary FGTS withdrawal, they can redeem the balance on the following occasions:

  • Withdrawal-termination;
  • Birthday withdrawal;
  • Retirement grant;
  • Serious diseases;
  • Public calamity;
  • Property financing;
  • Anticipation of birthday withdrawal.

The FGTS birthday withdrawal modality allows the annual withdrawal of a portion of the Fund's account balance, in the birthday month. If the worker chooses to be released, he or she will not be entitled to withdrawal-withdrawal. However, you may have a guaranteed extra income every year to help with expenses.
