FGTS: New withdrawal is released for the month of September

Caixa Econômica Federal will release the birthday withdrawal for workers born in September next Thursday (1). For those who opted for this modality, the money will be available between the first and last business day of the month of birth.

Birthdays in September have until September 30th (Friday) to withdraw funds from the FGTS Fund.

According to Caixa, from the start of withdrawals until July 2022, more than 21 million Brazilians opted for the birthday withdrawal method.

In 2022 alone, more than 12.4 million workers have already withdrawn part of their balance in the month of their anniversary, according to data made available by the bank between the months of January and July 2022. See below the list of withdrawals in this modality published by Box:

How does the FGTS Birthday Withdrawal work?

To access part of the Guarantee Fund balance, the employee must choose to withdraw on their birthday at a Caixa branch or through the FGTS application. Receiving the amounts is optional, as the Fund's standard withdrawal method is termination withdrawal, which is available when the worker is dismissed without just cause.

It is important to remember that there is a deadline for requesting a birthday withdrawal. To receive the amounts this year, the request must be made by the last business day of the anniversary month. If the request is made after this period, the amounts will only be released next year.

When logging in with your CPF and password in the FGTS application, select “My Withdrawals” and then the “Birthday Withdrawal Modality” option. On the next screen, the employee will be able to review what will change if they choose the withdrawal method, and can also simulate the released birthday withdrawal amount, taking into account the total balance of their account on the current date.

Afterwards, simply check the box I read and accept the Terms and Conditions and select the option “Opt for Birthday Withdrawal”.

When opting for the birthday withdrawal modality, the employee still has the right to withdraw the FGTS in the modalities provided for by law, such as retirement, purchase of housing, etc. However, you will not be able to withdraw the full FGTS amount in case of dismissal and will only have access to withdrawing the termination fine, when it is due.

Another important point that the worker must take into consideration is that if he wants to request a return to the withdrawal-termination modality, the change will only be officially valid from the first day of the 25th month after the date of the return request, i.e. the worker will receive the birthday withdrawal for another 2 years before returning to the withdrawal-termination modality.

What is the value of the Birthday Withdrawal?

The amount received in this modality depends on the balance available in each employee's account. To find out the exact amount that can be withdrawn, simply access the FGTS application or make a calculation based on the balance available in the account (withdrawal rate) plus an additional fee. To calculate, follow the table below:

Balance Ranges – R$Withdrawal rateAdditional Installment
Up to R$ 50050%R$ 0.00
From 500.01 to 1,00040%R$ 50.00

From 15,000.01 to 20,00010%R$ 1,900.00
Above 20,000.015%R$ 2,900.00

For example, an employee who has a balance of R$ 1,000 in the FGTS can receive R$ 400.00 (rate of 40%) plus an installment of R$ 50.00, totaling the birthday withdrawal amount of R$ 450.00.
