FGTS: September birthday withdrawal available for workers

Starting this Thursday 1st, workers born in September can now withdraw the amounts from the FGTS birthday withdrawal. Caixa makes the new calendar available to the group, who can choose to withdraw part of the fund annually.

The possibility is available for a period of 3 months (from September to November), starting from the first business day of the birthday month. Anyone who does not join within their birthday month will only be able to receive the amount again next year. This September, workers born in July and August can still withdraw.

Birthday Withdrawal Type

The modality is available to workers who have a balance in their FGTS accounts. Launched in April 2020, the FGTS anniversary withdrawal has already been used by more than 21 million workers and injected more than R$ 31 billion into the economy.

Introduced by Law 13,932/19, the birthday withdrawal allows employees to withdraw part of their balance from active and inactive FGTS accounts in the month of their birthday, plus a fixed percentage and an additional installment.

To join the birthday withdrawal modality, the citizen must inform Caixa Econômica Federal through the FGTS application or via the FGTS website. Membership is completely optional and for those who do not opt for the modality, they remain in the withdrawal-termination modality, when they can withdraw the amounts in cases of unfair dismissal, purchase of property or illness.

FGTS withdrawal methods

See the differences between the FGTS Termination Withdrawal and Anniversary Withdrawal:

Withdrawal-termination: system where the worker is dismissed without just cause and has the right to withdraw the full FGTS, including the termination fine when due;
Birthday withdrawal: it is optional for employees who wish to receive the amount annually in the month of their birthday. In cases of dismissal, the employee will only be able to withdraw the amount of the termination fine (40% paid by the company), and will not be able to withdraw the total amount from the account.

Birthday Withdrawal Calendar for 2022

Born in January - from January 3rd to March 31st;
Born in the month of February – February 1st and April 29th;
Born in March – from March 2nd to May 31st;
Born in April – from April 1st to June 30th;
Born in the month of May – from May 2nd to July 29th;
Born in the month of June – from June 1st to August 31st;
Born in July – from July 1st to September 30th;
Born in August – from August 1st to October 31st;
Born in September – from September 1st to November 30th;
Born in the month of October - from October 3rd to December 30th;
Born in November – from November 1st to January 31st, 2023;
Born in December – from December 1st to February 28th, 2023.

Value and rate of the Birthday Withdrawal

Caixa provides a table of values for approving withdrawals. The greater the amount available in the fund, the greater the amount redeemed each year.

The calculation consists of a fixed percentage plus an additional fee, depending on the value of the fund.

If the employee requests to return to the termination withdrawal, which is permitted, and is fired during the term of the anniversary withdrawal, he or she will receive the termination fine and will not be able to withdraw the full balance of the account due to termination.
