The Federal Revenue Service will make available the consultation of the 1st batch of Income Tax Refunds in 2023 on the 24th, Wednesday.
Refunds will be paid from May 31st, the date on which the deadline for receiving Income Tax declarations also ends.
Changes in priorities for receiving refunds
It is important to note that to be entitled to a refund, some requirements must be met. Therefore, the partial refund will depend on the taxpayer's earnings and expenses.
Furthermore, the benefit is granted to workers who pay tax monthly through withholding tax. In other words, this is automatically deducted from the salary.
In this sense, the worker whose taxes were withheld and whose contribution exceeded expectations will have the right to receive a refund.
For payments to be made, it is necessary to establish priority groups. In 2023, in addition to the usual priorities, two more categories were added.
1st Group | Elderly people aged 80 years or over |
2nd Group | Individuals aged 60 or over, in addition to people with physical or mental disabilities or serious illnesses |
3rd Group | Taxpayers whose main means of support is teaching. |
4th Group | People who used the pre-filled declaration and/or chose to receive the refund via PIX. |
5th Group | The other taxpayers, following the chronological order in which the declarations are sent. |
Emphasizing that other taxpayers will be served in later stages, following the queue order defined by the date of submission of the Income Tax declaration. Furthermore, this specification is also used as a tiebreaker in either group.
Thus, anyone who does not fit into the priority groups mentioned will have their declaration processed in subsequent phases, ensuring that everyone is served fairly and in an organized manner.

New in receiving refunded Income Tax amounts
IR (Income Tax) 2023 arrives with an innovation to make taxpayers' lives even easier: the option to receive the amounts refunded through Pix. When submitting the declaration, simply enter your Pix key, which will consist of your CPF number, and that's it.
The measure not only makes the refund process more agile, but also adds another layer of security for taxpayers. This is because the modality helps to keep sensitive banking data confidential, reducing the risks of card cloning or fraudulent actions.
