INSS (National Social Security Institute) policyholders who receive sickness benefit or disability pension and participate in the professional rehabilitation program must undergo a new reevaluation.
The process, which was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be resumed under Order 1,514 published in the Official Gazette of the Union last Tuesday (1st).
The objective of the assessment is to verify whether beneficiaries are still entitled to sickness benefit or disability retirement. Policyholders who have not completed the examination more than 365 days ago must be summoned.
45 thousand policyholders must be called for reevaluation
A total of 45 thousand of the 150 thousand beneficiaries undergoing rehabilitation will be notified. The number refers to insured people who have been on the Incapacity Proof Date for more than a year.
Beneficiaries must be notified between November 2022 and April 2023, as the review period is 180 days from the publication of the regulation, which comes into force immediately.
The summons is made through a letter, email, or call from the INSS. Therefore, beneficiaries need to make sure that the information is updated in the institute's system
It is not necessary to schedule a reevaluation. The INSS itself is responsible for the process.
INSS Professional Rehabilitation Program
Professional rehabilitation is offered by Social Security for insured people who are unable to work due to an illness, accident or disability. Beneficiaries are offered the opportunity to undergo professional development or readaptation, so that they can return to the market.
Every INSS beneficiary has the right to professional rehabilitation with no minimum contribution period. Employees who are victims of accidents at work have priority.
If the worker needs rehabilitation, the worker removed from the INSS will be referred to professional rehabilitation after the examination.
Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC) must also be reviewed by the INSS
By the second semester, the INSS must also review the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC). The insurance is intended for people over 65 years of age or disabled people of any age who do not have the means to subsist.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Pensions, the changes aim to “prevent social security funds from being burdened by undue payment of these benefits”.
