The new iOS 17 was presented by Apple during the opening of WWDC 2023, on June 5, 2023. During the conference, the company showed all the new features of the operating system, in addition to finally revealing which models will no longer receive updates this year.

The new version of iOS entered the testing circuit on the same day, still in the 1st Beta version. With the experimental update, testers can finally test the new functions, including Live Stickers, StandBy Mode, personalization for calls, automatic check-in and the new Journal application.

When will the iPhone receive the new iOS 17?

Currently, the new iOS 17 does not have an exact release date. Apple expects the new system to be released in the autumn of the northern hemisphere (between September and December) 2023.

The time at which the update will be released depends on the testing phase: if everything goes as expected, the new iOS 17 should arrive early; however, if the tests present problems that are difficult to resolve, the launch of the system may come a little later.

Generally, however, iOS reaches the public together with the iPhone of the year. Therefore, it is likely that iOS 17 will be distributed along with the iPhone 15 in September or October 2023 – possible launch date for Apple's next devices.

How can I participate in testing the new system?

Experimental iOS 17 updates are always released first to developers and then to regular testers. The time difference tends to be small, but the 1st version for consumers is only available one month after release for developers.

Participation in the testing program is free and only an iPhone model compatible with the system is required. To do this, you need:

  1. Access the official Apple Beta Software Program website (beta.apple.com);
  2. Register;
  3. Restart your cell phone;
  4. Check for pending updates on Settings > General > Software Update.

Participation in the testing program as a developer is paid – US$ 99 (around R$ 490, in direct conversion) per year. Additionally, this feature is not recommended for regular users, as it tends to be more rudimentary and may be prone to more issues than the stable version.
