LG presents Ultragear monitor with curved OLED screen

Presented at Gamescom 2022, LG announced on Friday (26) the UltraGear 45GR95QE, the company's first gaming monitor to feature a curved OLED panel. The novelty combines the already known advantages of this type of display with very robust specifications, which include high color accuracy, high refresh rate, minimum response time and the largest curvature seen on the market.
At 45 inches, the LG UltraGear 45GR95QE is one of LG's first bets on a gaming monitor to come with a flexible W-OLED panel – the launch appears to have the same screen as the Corsair Xeneon Flex, which debuted this week with LG technology being the first OLED monitor, allowing the user to adjust the curvature, which is the differentiating factor between the two peripherals.
The configurations are advanced: the new UltraGear has an aspect ratio of 21:9, a Quad HD resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. LG also highlights the wide color coverage of 98.5% of the DCI range -P3, support for HDR10 content playback and VRR display, as well as the deep blacks of OLED panels, response time (GtG) of just 0.1 ms and 800R curvature support among the highest in the segment.
To make better use of the large dimensions, the giant also implemented functions aimed at multitasking, such as: Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, which keeps the signal from two sources on the screen and displays one of them in a window format, and Picture mode -by-Picture (PbP), which splits the screen, making each source equally highlighted, and has multiple built-in HDMI 2.1 ports to provide enough bandwidth for the best picture quality.
The technical sheet is completed by an anti-reflective coating and technology that would reduce the emission of blue light that is harmful to the eyes. Interestingly, there is no mention of features designed to prevent Burn-In – the permanent ghosting effect caused by prolonged viewing of solid elements on OLED screens. The concern is even greater for W-OLED panels, which theoretically put more pressure on screen materials to ensure high brightness, leading to wear and tear.
However, it's worth noting that LG's other OLED displays aimed at professionals feature the same security mechanisms as the company's TVs, and will likely be implemented in the new UltraGear. LG confirmed that it intends to bring the launch to IFA 2022, a technology fair that should start next week, where the company should clarify these aspects.
Is LG's new Ultragear now available for purchase?
LG has not yet released information on pricing and availability for the UltraGear 45GR95QE, but considering the device uses the same panel as the Corsairs Xeneon Flex, these details will likely be revealed by the end of 2022.
