The new rules for the instant payment system via Pix, announced by the Central Bank in December, have been in force since last Monday (2). The changes will alter the value limits and make night hours more flexible.

With the new system rules, banks are no longer required to limit amounts per transaction, but only establish a limit per period. This allows users who have a daily limit of R$ 3 thousand, for example, to use the full amount in a single transaction.

New rules established for Pix

See below what changes at Pix with the new rules established by the Central Bank:

How it was before:

  • There was a limit per transaction and a daily limit;
  • Limit increase is processed within 48 hours, limit reduction accepted immediately;
  • Night time: between 8pm and 6am;
  • Pix Withdrawal and Pix Change: R$ 500/day and R$ 100/night.

How it is now with the new rules:

  • Limit on transaction amount is optional;
  • Limit change rules are maintained;
  • Night time: between 8pm and 6am or 10pm and 6am;
  • Pix Withdrawal and Pix Change: R$ 3,000/day and R$ 1,000/night.
  • if the customer asks for a reduction, the bank must reduce it immediately;
  • If the customer asks for an increase, authorization takes between 24 hours and 48

For corporate users (Legal Entities), the parameters that define transaction limits are now at the discretion of the banks. The definition of Pix limits for purchases becomes the same limit that the customer has for TED transactions and no longer on the debit card.

Is it true that Pix will be taxed in 2023?

With the announcement of the new rules, information emerged that the payment system would begin to charge. Although the changes are already taking effect, the news about Pix being taxed in 2023 is false.

The Central Bank released a note reinforcing that there are no fees created and no plans to change the free service:

There is no study on Pix taxation. There is also no intention to change the current free rules in force, as provided for in BC resolution no. 19, of 2020.

The Central Bank informed in a note.

Changes to rules by the Central Bank

The Central Bank claims that the changes occurred to facilitate the receipt of resources by bank correspondents, as is done in lotteries, and also to facilitate the payment of salaries, retirement benefits and pensions by the National Treasury through the system.
