Monkey Smallpox: 1st case registered in the Ribeirão Preto region

The municipality of Sertãozinho reported this Tuesday morning (5) that it had registered a suspected case of Monkey Pox in the municipality. This is the first suspected case of the disease reported in the Ribeirão Preto region.
According to the executive, the patient is doing well and is being kept in isolation. His exam was sent to the Adolfo Lutz Institute and the results are awaited.
Sertãozinho City Hall even announced that it would do a live broadcast on social media to provide more information about the situation. However, at the appointed time, the executive waived the transmission.
What is Monkeypox?
The Ministry of Health states that the disease is caused by the virus known as Monkeypox and transmission to humans can occur through contact with an infected animal or human, or with materials contaminated with the virus.
The latest bulletin from the Health Surveillance Secretariat (SVS) informs that as of July 3, 2022, 78 cases of the disease have been confirmed in Brazil, 77 of which are male and 1 female.
Monkeypox cases have been confirmed in:
- São Paulo – 52
- Rio de Janeiro – 16
- Minas Gerais – 3
- Ceará – 2
- Rio Grande do Sul – 2
- Federal District – 1
- Paraná – 1
- Rio Grande do Norte – 1
In total, there are 5,859 cases of monkeypox in 53 countries.
Also according to the Ministry of Health, in case of suspected monkeypox, the patient must be isolated and skin lesions in exposed areas must be protected by a sheet, clothing or long-sleeved apron.
Monkeypox treatment is based on supportive measures designed to alleviate symptoms, prevent and treat complications, and prevent sequelae.
