Discord is preparing some big changes this week. The company, known for the platform that essentially provides chat servers, has revealed a series of new features that are expected to be implemented this week.

This includes a new directory of native apps, activities, the full version of Nitro Basic, and more.

In a post on its official blog, Discord detailed the new features that will be implemented on the platform in the short and medium term, starting with integration with new native applications.

“We know from you that being able to customize and improve Discord has never been more important. Millions of people use Nitro subscriptions to improve their Discord. A vibrant app ecosystem has now emerged. More than 30% of active servers have apps for personalization, fun games, and secure chats. And we’ve seen billions of app commands used in Discord so far this year, doubling compared to the same period last year.”

The App Directory, released yesterday, is exactly what it sounds like. It's a directory of apps that server admins can browse and add to any server they manage on Discord without having to go to third-party websites and search engines to find them. Certain app developers will also be able to sell premium features natively on Discord alongside the launch of the App Directory.

Another big new feature launched is the new “Activities” feature that allows users to do more interactive activities together via Discord, like playing games. A rocket-shaped button on the voice channels offers access to several new features.

As for YouTube integration, Discord users can now create a playlist of playable videos from the Activities button, and friends need to join the activity to watch and listen together.

Additionally, Nitro Basic is set to be available globally following a first test run in the UK earlier this year. Starting October 20th, Discord users will be able to subscribe to Nitro Basic. In the United States, the service costs US$ 2.99 and offers the following benefits:

  • Freely use custom emojis from any server you belong to and use them anywhere you can use emojis.
  • Upload photos, videos and other files up to 50 MB.
  • Get a Nitro profile badge to show your support.

Some of these features have already started rolling out, while others will be released later this week and beyond.
