After President Lula (PT) signed MP 1164/2023 that recreates Bolsa Família, the new calendar for updating Bolsa Família registration was published in the Official Gazette of the Union, on the 2nd, Thursday. It is important for beneficiaries to be aware, as now the Single Registry will be more rigorous and may cut off families at any time.
According to MDS Ordinance No. 864 of March 2, 2023, the Registration Inquiry and Review processes are established for the biennium 2023 and 2024, data in the Single Registry will undergo an annual review to detect alleged beneficiary fraud.
Recently, the Government shared that 5 million registrations of the 21.8 million recipients of Bolsa Família benefits were suspected of irregularities. Of the 5 million, 1.5 million people were excluded and will lose the benefit in March because they do not meet the Bolsa Família requirements.
Checking for alleged fraud in the program
At the beginning of Lula's government, minister Wellington Dias stated that the program was going through a fine-tooth comb process to identify alleged fraud.
With this, at the reopening of the new Bolsa Família, Dias stated that, during the fine-tooth process of benefits, beneficiaries with around 9 minimum wages receiving the amounts were identified. In a promise, Wellington Dias said that fraud will cease to exist “because we are going to make CadÚnico more efficient“.
Dias also highlighted that the Bolsa Família program and the Single Registry will once again be supervised by the Federal Public Ministry, the General Comptroller of the Union and the Federal Court of Auditors.
Bolsa Família Registration Update Calendar
The Income Registration Inquiry, Registration Review and Unipersonal Inquiry processes will be carried out in accordance with the procedures and schedule established in the Specific Normative Instruction. See what it will be like:
- From February 2023, if the year of the last registration update was 2016 or 2017;
- From the month of December 2023, if the year of the last registration update is 2018, 2019 or 2020;
- In 2024, if the last update year is 2021.
In each registration investigation process, the registration will be analyzed with inconsistent data related to family composition, death or income of each family member, or other possible inconsistencies found by the MDS.
See below the income requirements to be included in the Cadastro Único and Bolsa Família.
- To join the Single Registry, the per capita monthly family income must be equal to or less than half the minimum wage (R$ 660). - To join Bolsa Família, the per capita monthly family income in the Single Registry cannot be greater than R$ 218.00. Therefore, a family with 4 people cannot have an income above R$ 872.00 to be able to receive Bolsa Família.
